ASTONFLY ADMISSION ASSESSMENT - ATP TRAINING

INTRODUCTION

The Astonfly assessment allows us to measure your cognitive abilities, your general knowledge and your level of mathematics/physics, which are essential to the success of your airline pilot training at Astonfly.

This assessment has been designed by Astonfly in collaboration with several airlines and developed by the European specialist in cognitive and behavioural assessments.
The scale of results for each test has been set by doctors in neuroscience with long experiences in airline pilot assessments.

PROGRAMME

The assessment, which lasts a total of 2 hours and 10 minutes, is in English and is composed of three distinct parts:

  1. Cognitive assessment based on 10 activities (one of the following 9 activities will be repeated) to be completed in 60 minutes:
    • N-Back
    • Mental marbles
    • Dominos
    • Switch
    • Watch out, it’s spinning
    • Mathematical errors
    • Fill-in-the-blank texts
    • Alternating between the two
    • It all depends on where you look
  2. Aeronautical General Knowledge Assessment (MCQ) of 30 questions to be completed in 10 minutes:
    • History of aviation
    • Technology of past and present day
    • Aircrafts
    • Airline companies
  3. Mathematics and physics assessment (MCQ) of 25 questions to be completed in 60 min:
    • Arithmetic: whole numbers, divisibility, powers, fractions, percentages, cross multiplication,
    • Geometry: surfaces and volumes, triangles, Pythagoras, angles, symmetry, homothety, translation, Thales, vectors,
    • Algebra: multiplication, 1st and 2nd degree equations, inequations, analysis, functions, derivatives,
    • Fluid mechanics: pressures, density, law of perfect gases,
    • Charts: reading charts,
    • Magnetism : magnetic and current fields, electromagnetic force,
    • Trigonometry : definitions, sine, cosine, tangent, arcsine, arcosine, arctangent, associated angles, transformation formulae, remarkable values of trigonometric functions, circular functions, angle-side relationships,
    • Electricity : direct current, intensity, potential, resistance, Ohm’s law, power, alternating current, period and frequency, phase shift.

RESULTS

Your result will be sent to you by e-mail once your scores have been processed.

 
FAIL :
You will be invited to retake the assessment after re-training. After two failed attempts, there is a 6-month waiting period before you can retake the entrance assessment.

 
PASS : MULTI AIRLINES
You demonstrate a sufficient result to enter the Astonfly ATP Integrated / Modular course under the « Multi Airlines » label for a start within 12 months of the date of passing this assessment.

 
PASS : MULTI AIRLINES + RYANAIR MENTORED PROGRAMME
You demonstrate a sufficient result to integrate the Astonfly ATP Integrated / Modular training under the label « Multi Airline » or « Ryanair Mentored Programme » and thus have the choice of your training course, for a start within 12 months following the date of passing this assessment.

Your Integrated ATP Programme in 24 months

The training begins with 9 months of theory dedicated to obtaining the 14 ATPL theory certificates (including 100 KSA) as well as the FCL.055 proficiency in English. This is taught via e-leaning, group lessons and revision courses. Each certificate is validated by passing an assessment in the DGAC examination centre.

You accomplish your first hours of flight. You discover the single-engine aircraft with “Glass Cockpit” and learn the basic piloting skills for this type of aircraft. You perfect your piloting skills, discover navigation and make your first flight as captain. A control flight validates the passage to the next block.

42 hours and 45 minutes of applied theory

22 hours of flight instruction in a single-engine aircraft

10 hours of flight instruction in a single-engine aircraft by yourself

5 hours of flight instruction in an FNPT II simulator

19 WEEKS

You obtain your night flying qualification and learn to perform long distance navigation. You take the practical flight test for the CPL (Commercial Pilot Licence) and the MEP (Multi Engine Piston) rating.

Unit D

Upset Prevention and
Recovery Training (UPRT)

1 WEEK

Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) after loss of control is integrated into the training of all commercial pilots. It prepares you to implement the appropriate procedure to recover from a loss of control during flight. At Astonfly, this training is taught on Mudry Cap 10, a French single-seater aerobatic aircraft. The training is validated by a certificate.

Unit E

Working with a
crew and APS MCC
standardization

3 WEEKS

During this phase at a simulation centre in Dublin, you will learn to work with a crew in a multi-pilot environment and obtain your MCC (Multi Crew Cooperation) proficiency and APS (Airline Pilot Standard) qualifications. The training is validated by a certificate.

The integrated ATP training is mainly carried out on Cessna 172S and Diamond DA42, modern training aircraft with G1000 avionics particularly renowned for their flight demonstration capabilities. In-flight exercises on warning about unusual positions are taught on the TB30 Epsilon, a former French Air Force training aircraft.
