With the FI IRI instructor rating, you will become an instructor who can issue the rating, extension and renewal of an IR, BIR or EIR rating on the appropriate category of aircraft.

The training consists of 4 stages - applied theory, simulator and flights.

Teaching methods
for instrument flight

You will study the full range of subjects specific to the teaching of instrument flight, including meteorology, human factors and operational minima.

11 hours and 15 minutes of applied theory

Stage 2

Initial training
for instruction on a simulator

The objective of this stage is to review the basics of blind flight in the instrument flight regime in the simulator.

4 hours and 30 minutes of applied theory

5 hours of flight instruction on the FNPT II simulator

Stage 3

Advanced learning
for instruction on a simulator

The objective of this stage is to review your ability to progress in the instrument flight regime in the simulator.

4 hours and 30 minutes of applied theory

3 hours of flight instruction on the FNPT II simulator

Stage 4

Learning to instruct
in the aircraft

You will carry out instrument navigation steps with 2D and 3D approaches.

2 hours and 15 minutes of applied theory

2 hours of flight instruction on a single-engine aircraft

Validity and extension of your FI IRI (A) qualification

The IRI FI (A) qualification is valid 36 months starting from the day of issue.
It can be extended for a further 36 months by meeting 2 of the following 3 conditions:

(1) Justification of at least 50 hours flight instruction experience over the last period of validity, including 10 hours on instruments in the 12 months previous to expiry,

(2) Participation in an RSFI refresher seminar within the 12 months prior to expiry,

(3) Complete a theory and practical competency assessment (FCL.935) within 12 months prior to expiry.

After expiry, you must complete conditions 2 and 3
to renew your FI IRI (A) rating.
